About Us:

The Foundation comprises two schools: Abingdon School and Abingdon Prep School, as well as Abingdon School Enterprises. Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with more than 1,000 pupils aged 11-18. Currently a boys’ school, it will become co-educational from September 2026. 

Abingdon Prep School is a vibrant and warm day preparatory school with around 200 pupils aged 4-13 which has been co-educational since last year. Both Schools are situated in beautiful and extensive grounds, with the senior school in the heart of Abingdon on Thames, just south of Oxford, and the Prep School located a few miles away in nearby Frilford.

Cleaner - The Role:

Position 1: This position is based at Abingdon School and working 15 hours per week, term time plus (38.4 weeks plus 5.6 weeks holiday, a total of 44 weeks). The standard hours of work are 5.30am to 8.30am, Monday to Friday.

Position 2: This position is based at Abingdon Prep School (Located at Frilford, Oxon) and working 15 hours per week, term time plus (38.4 weeks plus 5.6 weeks holiday, a total of 44 weeks). The standard hours of work are 5.00am to 8.00am Monday to Friday.

As a Cleaner, you will maintain a high standard of cleanliness across a range of school areas including pupil bedrooms, common rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, communal areas, teaching spaces and sports facilities. You will work on various surfaces and at different floor levels, using a variety of cleaning equipment and non-hazardous cleaning products in accordance with training. You will also undertake deep cleaning as required, strip and make beds, empty bins and report maintenance needs.

Cleaner - Key Responsibilities:

- Clean all designated school areas to the required standard within the specified timescale

- Use a variety of cleaning equipment such as brushes, mops, vacuums, steamers and carpet cleaners

- Carry out deep cleaning of allocated areas at the end of term and after building works

- Maintain stocks of cleaning products and comply with colour coding systems during training

- Empty bins and carry bin bags to designated collection points

- Report maintenance requirements and possible pupil welfare issues appropriately

- Attend in-house training and staff meetings

- Cover for other staff on holiday or sick leave as needed

Cleaner - You:

- Punctual, reliable and flexible with strong time management skills

- Able to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team

- Physically and mentally fit to carry out the duties of the post

- Committed to safeguarding children and young people

- Experience in general cleaning duties is desirable but not essential as training will be provided
