Role Purpose:
To carry out street cleansing operations across Somerset, enhancing and maintaining the environment with minimal disruption to customers.

Key Result Areas & Accountabilities

Corporate Responsibilities:
Understand, uphold and promote the Council's equality, diversity and inclusion policies, health, safety and wellbeing standards, and organisational values in all activities. Promote equality of opportunity, challenge discrimination, and ensure positive interactions with staff, service users and communities.

Operational Duties:
Carry out street cleansing operations across Somerset, including litter picking, hand sweeping, bin emptying, fly-tip removal, toilet cleaning, and other reasonable duties as required.

Customer Service:
Work as part of the street cleansing team to maintain and enhance the local environment while minimising disruption to customers and the public.

Vehicle Use & Maintenance:
Drive non-LGV vehicles and operate machinery as required.
Carry out basic vehicle and equipment maintenance, including checking fluid levels, tyre pressures, tyre wear and bulbs.
Maintain vehicles and equipment in a clean and tidy condition.
Complete Daily User Checks and report defects to supervisors or operational management.

Reporting:
Provide updates to supervisors on completed work and report any health and safety concerns arising from actions or omissions.

Health & Safety:
Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions.
Co-operate with the employer on health and safety matters.
Do not interfere with or misuse equipment provided for health, safety or welfare.
Follow all training and safe working procedures when using equipment.
Report any work activities or inadequate precautions that may pose serious health and safety risks.

Machinery & Tools:
Operate all tools and equipment safely and appropriately in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and legible records, including timesheets, tick sheets, vehicle and machinery defect reports, pesticide application forms and incident reports.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills

Essential:
• Good standard of education.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Self-motivated with the ability to deliver a high-quality service with minimal supervision.

Desirable:
• Experience in a hands-on physical role.
• Previous experience in a similar role.

Dimensions of Role:
• No direct reports.
• No budget responsibility.

Working Conditions:
• Outdoor working with no regular office base.
• Exposure to all weather conditions.
• Exposure to unpleasant, disagreeable or hazardous environmental conditions.

Working Arrangements:
• Flexible working may be required, including weekends, evenings, unsocial hours and special events.
• Full-time role, 37 hours per week.
• Working days may vary according to service requirements.
