Our client is a well-established contractor delivering planned maintenance, refurbishment, retrofit and decarbonisation projects for Housing Associations and Local Authorities across the Midlands.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Clerk of Works to oversee the quality of works being delivered across multiple live construction sites.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong practical construction background who enjoys being on site, identifying issues before they become problems and ensuring projects are completed to the highest standards.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Management Team, you will act as the client's quality representative, carrying out regular inspections throughout the construction process to ensure workmanship, materials and health & safety standards meet specification.

You will work closely with Contracts Managers, subcontractors and client representatives, providing technical guidance and ensuring works are delivered right first time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular inspections of refurbishment, planned maintenance and retrofit projects.
  • Monitor workmanship, quality standards and compliance with specifications.
  • Identify defects and ensure remedial works are completed promptly.
  • Produce detailed inspection reports with photographic evidence.
  • Ensure projects comply with Building Regulations, NHBC standards where applicable and client specifications.
  • Monitor contractor performance and quality of workmanship.
  • Attend progress meetings with clients and project teams.
  • Review construction programmes and monitor site progress.
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are maintained across all projects.
  • Verify completed works prior to handover.
  • Assist in resolving technical construction issues.
  • Support continuous improvement across operational teams.

About You

We are looking for someone with a practical construction background who has progressed into quality inspection or site management.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Manager, Quality Inspector or Contracts Supervisor.
  • Strong knowledge of social housing refurbishment and planned maintenance.
  • Experience of retrofit or decarbonisation projects would be highly advantageous.
  • Excellent understanding of construction methods and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Qualifications

ICWCI Membership or working towards.

HNC/HND or equivalent in Construction.

SMSTS or SSSTS.

CSCS Card.

PAS 2035 knowledge.

Asbestos Awareness.

Temporary Works Awareness.
