Clerk of Works - Residential Projects
Essex / Norwich Area

An established, traditional multidisciplinary are looking to appoint an experienced Clerk of Works to support a portfolio of predominantly residential projects across the Essex and Norwich area.

The Role

As Clerk of Works, you will act as the client's representative on site, independently monitoring the quality and progress of construction works.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out regular site inspections across residential developments
  • Monitoring workmanship, materials and construction methods against drawings, specifications and relevant standards
  • Identifying defects, quality issues and areas of non-compliance
  • Producing clear and detailed site inspection reports, including photographic records
  • Monitoring progress against agreed programmes
  • Attending site and project meetings where required
  • Liaising professionally with contractors, consultants, developers and client teams
  • Reviewing remedial works and confirming that identified issues have been satisfactorily resolved
  • Providing practical advice on construction quality and good practice
  • Helping ensure projects are delivered safely to specification and to the expected level of finish

The Clerk of Works requirements:

We are looking for someone with strong practical knowledge of residential construction and the confidence to challenge poor workmanship when required.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Manager, Building Inspector, Construction Manager or similar
  • ICWCI - some form of membership required, CIOB is also beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction, including new-build housing and apartment developments
  • A thorough understanding of construction drawings, specifications and building standards
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce professional inspection reports
  • A pragmatic and collaborative approach when dealing with site teams
  • The ability to manage your own diary and workload across multiple projects
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout Essex and the Norwich area
