Client Accountant in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

We're working with an established and growing general practice in Buckinghamshire who are looking to add an Accountant to their team. It's a friendly, supportive firm with a strong focus on client relationships, giving people responsibility and helping their team progress.

You'll work with a varied portfolio of mainly SME and owner-managed businesses, covering a broad mix of accounts, tax and general practice work. This is a genuinely client-facing role, so you'll be speaking with clients regularly, understanding their businesses and becoming a trusted point of contact rather than simply preparing accounts behind the scenes.

The role is hybrid, with 2 days a week in the office, with the option to move towards a fully remote setup once you've settled into the role and built relationships with your clients.

What you'll be doing

• Managing a portfolio of mainly SME and owner-managed clients.
• Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Completing VAT returns, management accounts and tax returns.
• Speaking directly with clients, handling queries and providing practical accountancy advice.
• Helping clients with bookkeeping and their accounting systems.
• Building strong, long-term relationships and becoming a trusted contact for your clients.
• Working alongside the wider team to make sure clients receive a high level of service.

What we're looking for

• Previous experience within a UK accountancy practice.
• Experience preparing accounts for SME and owner-managed businesses.
• A good understanding of VAT, bookkeeping and general practice accounts.
• AAT qualified, ACCA/ACA part-qualified or qualified, or someone who has built their experience through practice.
• Confident communicating directly with clients and comfortable managing your own portfolio.
• Commercially minded, personable and keen to continue developing your career.
