Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Peregrine

Senior Azure Application, DevOps & Security Engineer

Permanent | Hybrid (40% onsite) | Cloud, DevOps & Security |

At Peregrine, we’re always seeking Specialist Talent that have the ideal mix of skills, experience, and attitude, to place with our vast array of clients. From Business Analysts in large government organisations to Software Developers in the private sector – we are always in search of the best talent to place, now.

The role:

Our client, a leading UK financial regulator, needs a senior, hands-on Azure engineer to productionise an application on Azure App Service that supports its supervisory analytics platform. You'll take ownership of connecting the organisation's API Management instance to the application, correcting and hardening the App Service configuration, implementing the application's security and access model, and establishing repeatable deployment, testing, monitoring and operational processes. This is a delivery-focused engagement: you'll be expected to make working technical changes and transfer knowledge to the internal team, not just provide advisory input.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure and secure the connection between the core API Management instance and the App Service application, including routes, policies, authentication, certificates and network access.

  • Review, correct and harden the App Service configuration so the application starts, scales and operates reliably, including managed identities, secrets and environment-specific settings.

  • Design and implement the application's security model: user, application and service-to-service authentication, role-based access control, and integration with Entra ID and approved identity controls.

  • Build and deploy a caching layer to support usage tracking, including the Terraform infrastructure to provision it, plus an application database built and operated through Terraform.

  • Implement or improve CI/CD for the App Service and API Management configuration, with automated testing, configuration validation and deployment checks across development, test, UAT and production.

  • Introduce health checks, diagnostic logging and monitoring, integrating Azure Monitor and Application Insights to track usage activity and service health.

  • Produce clear technical documentation, runbooks and reusable deployment patterns, and run knowledge-transfer sessions with the internal team.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong, hands-on Azure application and cloud engineering experience.

  • Azure API Management and Azure App Service in a production environment.

  • Entra ID authentication, managed identities and role-based access control.

  • Application and API security within a secure or regulated environment.

  • Networking, certificates, DNS and service-to-service connectivity.

  • Production CI/CD for Azure-hosted applications.

  • Python and REST API integration.

  • Secrets management, logging, monitoring and operational support.

  • Git-based development and infrastructure configuration.

  • Clear technical documentation and effective knowledge transfer.

Desirable skills:

  • Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

  • Azure Key Vault.

  • Application Insights and Azure Monitor.

  • Private endpoints, virtual network integration and network security controls.

  • Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tooling.

  • Databricks integration.

  • API policies, rate limiting, validation and request transformation.

  • Experience supporting AI, LLM or data-driven applications.
