Machine Shop Supervisor | Wakefield | £40,000 - £45,000 + Company Bonus

W Talent are proud to be partnering with a leading engineering and manufacturing business to recruit a CNC Machine Shop Supervisor to be located at the Wakefield operations. This role would suit an experienced CNC Operators, Team Leaders, Supervisors or Senior Machinist looking to take the next step in their career, offering the opportunity to have a real impact on production performance, team development and continuous improvement.

The Role - Days Based

Reporting into the Manufacturing Manager you will be based at the Wakefield site responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the CNC Machine Shop, ensuring production targets, quality standards and health & safety requirements are consistently achieved. You will lead a skilled team of CNC Machinists, Setters, Programmers and Apprentices, providing guidance, technical support and leadership across the department.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, supporting and developing a team of CNC Machinists, Setters, Programmers and Apprentices.
  • Coordinating daily workloads and ensuring production schedules are achieved.
  • Supporting complex CNC machine setups, tooling, fixture alignment and programme prove-outs.
  • Providing technical support with CNC controls, G-code edits and machining challenges.
  • Maintaining high standards of health & safety across the shop floor.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, processes and machining efficiency.
  • Supporting the training and development of apprentices and junior members of the team.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • A time-served apprenticeship (NVQ, ONC or equivalent) within Mechanical, Machining or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a CNC machining environment, ideally with supervisory or team leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, machine setups, tooling and programming principles.
  • Experience working within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • The ability to lead by example and motivate a skilled technical team.
