CNC Machinist

Rise Search Limited

Are you a CNC Machinist looking for more than just running programs? Do you want the chance to build an in-house machining function from scratch and grow with it?

An ambitious engineering business working across motorsport and high performance sectors is bringing machining in-house for the first time. They are moving to a new site and need the right person to lead that shift from day one.

You will work alongside a small team of skilled, design-focused engineers who know their components inside out but need someone who can turn those designs into reality - advising on manufacture, material choice and machinability, then delivering it on the machine yourself. As the business grows, this role is expected to grow with it, with genuine scope to move into a Production Planning position and take ownership of machinery H&S and policies.

Your responsibilities as a CNC Machinist:
  • Set, programme and operate a turn/mill CNC machine (Mazak Integrex or similar), working predominantly in steels
  • Programme using Mazak conversational programming or an equivalent control system
  • Select tooling, work holding and cutting parameters, and prove out new programs from scratch
  • Manufacture one-off and small-batch precision components to tight tolerances
  • Review designs and advise on the best approach to manufacture, materials and machinability
  • Carry out first-off and in-process quality inspection using standard metrology equipment
  • Take the lead on the new machine's introduction, workshop set-up and machinery H&S as the role develops
Your current experience which will help you a CNC Machinist:
  • At least 3 years' hands-on CNC experience, ideally on a turn/mill machine such as a Mazak Integrex, setting & programming rather than just operating
  • Confident interpreting engineering drawings and tolerances, and comfortable advising on manufacturability
  • Experience with Mazak conversational programming (or an equivalent control) is a strong advantage - CAM experience is also a plus
  • A practical, resourceful mindset - happy working things out independently and knowing where to go for support
  • Ambitious and keen to grow beyond the machine into wider production and leadership responsibility
  • A genuine hands-on background - whether that's engines, machinery or projects outside of work - and a real hands-on attitude. Experience with gear machining equipment (e.g. Pfauter or Lorenz) is a bonus but not essential
What you can expect as a CNC Machinist:
  • Salary up to £45,000 dependent on experience.
  • Varied, technically interesting work rather than repetitive production
  • Motorsport and high-performance engineering exposure
  • A team where your input directly shapes how things are made
  • Company pension
  • 31 days holiday (including bank holidays)
