A precision engineering manufacturer in Cambridge is looking to recruit an experienced CNC Maintenance Engineer to support a highly automated machining environment.

This position would suit a maintenance professional who enjoys fault finding, improving machine reliability and working closely with production teams to maximise equipment performance.

You'll be responsible for maintaining a range of advanced CNC machining centres, identifying recurring issues, implementing long-term engineering solutions and helping to improve overall equipment effectiveness across the facility.

The Role

Working as part of an established engineering team, you will:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on CNC machinery.
  • Carry out planned, preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Reduce downtime through effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support machine installations, upgrades and commissioning projects.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Manage maintenance documentation and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve asset life, machine utilisation and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with external service providers where specialist support is required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the production environment.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience maintaining CNC machine tools within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding capabilities.
  • Knowledge of servo systems, PLC-controlled equipment, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Experience working with multi-axis machining centres.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc, Haas or similar CNC control platforms.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
  • A structured approach to problem solving and equipment reliability.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production and engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • HNC/HND or further technical qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Relevant electrical qualifications desirable.
