Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: £36,000-£44,500 per annum DOE

Hours: Permanent Day Shift - 39 hours per week

THOMAS Professional is supporting a leading precision engineering manufacturer in the recruitment of a skilled CNC Mill/Turn Machinist for its dedicated aerospace production facility in Poole. The company is also open to considering an experienced candidate who would like to take on Team Leader responsibilities. You would continue setting and operating CNC machinery while acting as the key link between the Mill/Turn machining team and the Production Manager.

The Role

You will set and operate CNC Mill/Turn machinery to manufacture high-precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications and strict quality standards.

At Team Leader level, you will also coordinate the Mill/Turn production line, support other machinists and maintain clear communication between the shop-floor team and management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting and operating CNC Mill/Turn machines using FANUC controls
  • Manufacturing high-precision components from engineering drawings
  • Completing machine set-ups, tool changes and offset adjustments
  • Carrying out first-off and in-process inspections
  • Using precision measuring equipment to verify component quality
  • Monitoring machining processes to maintain quality and efficiency
  • Identifying and resolving machining or production issues
  • Maintaining high safety, quality and housekeeping standards
  • Supporting continuous-improvement activities

Team Leader Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting a line of CNC Mill/Turn machinists
  • Acting as the link between the machining team and Production Manager
  • Coordinating workloads and daily production priorities
  • Monitoring progress against quality and delivery targets
  • Providing technical guidance and practical shop-floor support
  • Escalating production, quality or machinery issues
  • Supporting the training and development of team members
  • Promoting strong communication, teamwork and performance

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience as a CNC Mill/Turn Machinist
  • Hands-on experience setting and operating CNC Mill/Turn machinery
  • Experience using FANUC control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings
  • Confident using precision measuring and inspection equipment
  • Strong understanding of tight tolerances and quality standards
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Previous Team Leader or Line Leader experience would be advantageous
  • Applications are also encouraged from experienced machinists ready to take their first step into leadership
  • Experience with Nakamura machines or bar-feed systems would be beneficial
  • Aerospace or high-precision manufacturing experience would be advantageous
