EMBS Engineering Ltd is working in partnership with a well-established precision engineering manufacturer that is currently in the market for a CNC Machine Technician to join their company on a permanent basis.
Our client is modernising its machine shop, introducing new DN Solutions (Doosan) milling centres with Heidenhain controls and moving work away from legacy drawings and older machinery. To support this, they are seeking a technician-level machinist to become the go-to specialist for setting up jobs, proving out programs and resolving machining issues, particularly on new product introduction (NPI).
This role goes well beyond a standard operator or setter position. You will combine offline CAD/CAM programming with hands-on work at the machine, and your input on cutting strategies and methods of manufacture will directly shape how the business estimates and quotes new work.
Your responsibilities will include:
As a CNC Machine Technician, you will be responsible for programming, proving out and refining machining processes, acting as the technical link between the shop floor and the Technical Manager.
You will:
-
Act as the go-to person for setting up jobs, proving out programs and resolving machining issues, with a particular focus on NPI
-
Carry out CAD/CAM modelling, toolpath generation and post-processing using HyperMill
-
Produce NC programs offline for 3-axis and 3+1 axis milling on DN Solutions / Doosan machines with Heidenhain controls
-
Work at the machine to carry out modifications and refine programs on-site
-
Advise the Technical Manager on cutting strategies and methods of manufacture (MOMs) during estimating and quoting
-
Support the transfer of work from legacy drawings and older machinery onto modern equipment and CAD/CAM processes
What's in it for you?
Benefits:

A key role in modernising the machine shop and its manufacturing methods
-
Direct input into estimating and quoting, working closely with the Technical Manager
-
Brand new DN Solutions machining centres and HyperMill CAD/CAM software
-
A balance of offline programming and hands-on machine work
Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate:
-
Technician-level CNC milling experience, clearly beyond operator or basic setter level
-
Proven experience programming offline and generating NC toolpaths in CAD/CAM software, not limited to machine-side edits
-
HyperMill experience is ideal; Siemens NX, CATIA, PowerMill, SolidCAM, EdgeCAM or Mastercam will also be considered
-
Experience programming, setting and operating 3-axis and 3+1 (4th axis) milling machines
-
Experience with Heidenhain controls; Fanuc experience will also be considered
-
Strong NPI prove-out, troubleshooting and cutting strategy planning skills
-
Confidence advising on methods of manufacture to support quoting
-
Mill-turn programming or operating experience is advantageous, though milling-focused candidates are welcome
