CNC Turner Setter/Programmer – West Byfleet
£38,000–£40,000 per year

About the role

We are seeking a skilled CNC Turner Setter/Programmer to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC lathes to produce precision components to tight tolerances, often using exotic and high-performance materials. This role requires a strong focus on quality, accuracy and efficiency within a high-specification engineering environment.

This role reports to the Machine Shop Manager.

Location

The role will initially be based at our machine shop in West Byfleet for four to six months, before moving to our facility in Send, Woking.

This is a workshop-based precision machining environment, and PPE must be worn at all times. Overtime and shift work may be required, depending on workload.

What you will be doing

  • Set, program and operate CNC turning machines
  • Manufacture components to tight tolerances, typically measured in microns
  • Work with exotic materials such as Inconel, Titanium, Hastelloy, Duplex and other alloys
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds
  • Conduct in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment
  • Ensure all parts meet quality standards
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments
  • Follow safety procedures

This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned as required to meet the needs of the business.

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience as a CNC Turner
  • Experience machining exotic materials and difficult alloys
  • Ability to machine complex components to tight tolerances
  • CNC programming experience
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Understanding of tooling and machining strategies
  • Experience with inspection and quality processes
  • Strong attention to detail

Desirable qualifications

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
  • Experience in aerospace, oil & gas or defence sectors
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing

What you will receive

This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 07:00–15:30, with a 30-minute lunch break. There is flexibility around start and finish times in line with the Company’s core working hours policy.

  • Overtime, when agreed and authorised in advance, paid at 1.5 times the basic hourly rate
  • Aviva workplace pension scheme in line with current legislation and guidelines, with a 5% employee contribution and 3% employer contribution
  • 24 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays
