CNC Turner Programmer / Setter / Operator
£35,000 - £40,000 | Plymouth | One-Off & Bespoke Machining
Are you a CNC Turner who enjoys genuine engineering rather than running the same production parts day after day? This is an opportunity to join a well-established precision engineering business supporting a range of challenging projects across defence, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
Working within a small, highly skilled team, you'll programme, set and operate a Doosan Puma 2600L lathe to produce bespoke components from raw material through to finished part. This is a low-volume environment where every day is different and your ability to think independently, solve problems and machine from drawings will be valued.
This is what you'll be doing
As CNC Turner, you'll take ownership of jobs from start to finish, producing high-quality components in a varied subcontract machining environment.
- Programming, setting and operating a Doosan Puma 2600L CNC lathe with Fanuc controls
- Producing components from engineering drawings and raw material
- Programming from scratch for one-off and low-volume work
- Selecting tooling, machining strategies and processes independently
- Manufacturing components in a varied environment where several completely different jobs may pass through the machine each day
- Working with a range of materials including stainless steel, aluminium, alloys, engineering plastics and carbon steels
- Inspecting your own work to ensure components meet drawing and quality requirements
The experience you'll bring to the team
- Proven CNC Turning experience with programming, setting and operating responsibilities
- Strong Fanuc control knowledge
- Experience programming from scratch rather than editing existing programs
- Ability to work confidently from engineering drawings
- Experience machining one-off, prototype, low-volume or subcontract components
- Strong understanding of tooling, cutting data and machining methods
- Ability to work independently and make informed machining decisions
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
There's also some must haves
- CNC turning programming experience from scratch
- Experience working in a low-volume or bespoke machining environment
- Ability to take a job from raw material through to finished component with minimal supervision
And this is what you'll get in return
- £35,000 - £40,000 salary
- 39-hour working week
- Monday to Thursday: 07:30 - 16:30
- Friday finish at 12:30
- Supportive and approachable management team
- Exposure to varied and technically interesting work
- Flexibility around family and personal commitments where required
- Long-term stability within an established engineering business
Are you up to the challenge?
If you're currently working in CNC turning and want a role where you can genuinely use your programming ability, make machining decisions and take ownership of your work, we'd like to hear from you.
This position would particularly suit someone from a subcontract, toolmaking, prototype or low-volume manufacturing background who enjoys variety and working on different components every day.
Please apply with an up-to-date CV. We also operate a referral scheme, so if you know someone who could be a good fit for the role, feel free to get in touch.
Please note that some projects involve work within defence-related environments. Candidates should be willing to discuss any circumstances that could affect site access or security clearance requirements during the recruitment process.
