The Company

A well-established construction and manufacturing business based in Winkleigh, Devon is looking to appoint an experienced Coded Pipe Welder to support its continued growth. The company specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of complex stainless steel pipework, structures and components for major food manufacturing facilities across the region.

Following recent contract awards and with a new manufacturing facility currently under development, the business has secured a strong pipeline of future work and is investing further in its workshop team. This is a great opportunity for a Coded Pipe Welder to join a stable, expanding organisation committed to quality workmanship and long-term employment.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Coded Pipe Welder will play a hands-on role within the workshop, carrying out high-quality fabrication and coded welding while helping to coordinate day-to-day activities and supporting colleagues where required.
Working on bespoke stainless steel projects, you'll ensure work is completed to exacting quality standards while assisting apprentices, operatives and subcontract labour to keep projects progressing efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication details and work instructions
  • Cut, prepare and form stainless steel using a variety of workshop machinery including presses, lasers and shears
  • Carry out high-quality MIG and TIG welding on stainless steel pipework and fabricated components
  • Assemble fabricated sections using welding, bolting and other fabrication techniques
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality, safety and customer specifications
  • Assist with planning workloads and coordinating workshop activities to support project delivery
  • Support apprentices, labourers and subcontractors with technical guidance when required
  • Repair or replace damaged or defective components
  • Maintain workshop equipment, tools and a clean, safe working environment
  • Liaise with project managers, designers and the wider production team to achieve programme deadlines
  • Promote high standards of workmanship, safety and professionalism at all times
About You

To be successful as a Coded Pipe Welder, you'll have a strong background working with stainless steel within a manufacturing or fabrication environment, ideally supplying the food manufacturing sector or other hygiene-critical industries.

You'll ideally have:
  • Proven experience within fabrication and manufacturing
  • Strong MIG and TIG welding skills (essential)
  • Experience working with stainless steel (essential)
  • The ability to confidently read and interpret technical drawings
  • A practical, reliable and professional approach to work
  • High attention to detail and pride in producing quality workmanship
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
  • Previous experience within food manufacturing or hygienic production environments (desirable)
Desirable Certifications
  • IPAF
  • Forklift Licence
  • Telehandler Licence
Hours & Package
  • £23 per hour (or £25 if you have all your codes)
  • Overtime available during weekdays and weekends
