Our client, a leading provider of integrated facilities management and infrastructure solutions is hiring for a Commercial Accountant to join their team in Orpington.

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Accountant to support the financial and operational performance of a complex healthcare facilities management contract. This role is ideally suited to a commercially focused accountant with experience in field services, facilities management, engineering, infrastructure, utilities or contracting environments, with exposure to PFI contracts highly desirable.
About the Business
Our client deliver critical hard FM services within a large healthcare environment. Our responsibilities include:
- Planned and reactive maintenance
- Lifecycle asset replacement programmes
- Building fabric maintenance and repairs
- Mechanical, electrical and plumbing services
- Medical gas systems
- Fire and life safety systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Theatre and specialist healthcare environments
- Statutory compliance and regulatory maintenance
- Alterations and project works
Working alongside in-house teams and specialist subcontractors, we ensure the safe and compliant operation of a diverse and complex estate.
The Role
We are looking for a Commercial Accountant who can interpret financial information, understand operational performance, and help drive improvements across the contract.
You will work closely with operational managers, commercial teams and the client, providing meaningful financial insight that supports decision making and improves contract performance.
You'll need to be comfortable discussing contracts, payment mechanisms and performance measures, as well as presenting commercial positions to both internal stakeholders and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Produce monthly financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Identify trends, risks and opportunities to improve business performance.
- Partner with operational teams to drive profitability and efficiency.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital performance.
- Support invoicing processes and debt recovery activities.
- Review and challenge subcontractor applications for payment.
- Assist with contract negotiations, claims and dispute resolution.
- Monitor contractual performance and payment mechanisms.
- Provide commercial and financial support to senior management.
- Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
About You
We're looking for someone who understands that great commercial accounting is about influencing business performance, not just producing reports.
You'll have:
- Strong commercial accounting experience within a field services, infrastructure, FM, engineering, utilities or contracting environment
- Experience developing annual budgets, forecasts and detailed variance analysis
- Strong cash flow management experience
- Experience working with subcontractors and reviewing applications for payment
- Understanding of contracts, payment mechanisms and commercial frameworks
- Experience supporting negotiations and dispute resolution
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders
- The ability to translate financial data into operational actions and business improvements
