Commercial Catering Equipment Service Technician/Engineer

Position Purpose
The Commercial Catering Equipment Service Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, servicing and preventative maintenance of commercial catering equipment at customer sites.
The position requires a technically capable field-service technician who can independently diagnose electrical, mechanical and gas-related faults while delivering a high standard of customer service.
The technician will work across a broad range of commercial catering environments and equipment and will represent Coreserve professionally while attending customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
Service and Repairs
Attend scheduled and reactive service calls at customer sites.
Diagnose faults in commercial catering equipment.
Repair gas, electrical and electromechanical catering equipment.
Complete preventative and planned maintenance.
Test equipment following repairs to ensure safe and correct operation.
Identify components requiring replacement and accurately record parts used or required.
Carry out commissioning and functional testing where appropriate.
Diagnose intermittent and complex equipment faults.
Minimise repeat service calls through accurate diagnosis and quality workmanship.
Equipment
Service and repair equipment including, but not limited to: Combination ovens, Commercial ovens, Ranges, Fryers, Grills, Griddles, Steamers, Bain-maries, Commercial dishwashers, Glasswashers, Warewashing equipment, Food preparation equipment, Heated holding equipment, Gas-fired commercial cooking equipment Electrically heated commercial catering equipment, Associated pumps, motors, solenoids, thermostats, contactors, relays, sensors, heating elements, electronic controls and PCBs
Technical Duties
Perform systematic electrical fault finding.
Interpret electrical wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
Test electrical components and circuits using appropriate test equipment.
Diagnose mechanical and electromechanical equipment faults.
Diagnose combustion and gas appliance faults where appropriately licensed.
Carry out equipment adjustments and calibration.
Follow manufacturer’s service procedures and technical instructions.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant catering equipment and technologies.
Customer Service
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers.
Explain equipment faults and repair requirements where appropriate.
Keep customers informed regarding the status of repairs.
Treat customer premises and equipment with care.
Identify potential equipment or maintenance issues and communicate these appropriately.
Build positive long-term customer relationships.
Field Service Administration
Accurately complete electronic service reports.
Record labour, travel, parts and work completed.
Maintain appropriate vehicle stock.
Submit required documentation promptly.
Maintain company vehicle, tools and equipment in good condition.
Participate in after-hours or on-call arrangements where required.
Safety and Compliance
Work in accordance with Australian workplace health and safety requirements.
Follow Coreserve safety policies and procedures.
Comply with applicable electrical, gas and trade licensing requirements.
Ensure equipment is left in a safe condition.
Report identified safety hazards or unsafe equipment.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Demonstrated commercial catering equipment service and repair experience.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills.
- Experience working with commercial gas and electrically heated catering equipment.
- Ability to independently diagnose equipment faults.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
- Experience working as a mobile or field-service technician.
- Good mechanical aptitude.
- Professional customer-service skills.
- Ability to manage workload and work independently.
- Current driver’s licence or ability to obtain an Australian driver’s licence.
Qualifications
For UK applicants, desirable qualifications include: CCCN1 or equivalent commercial gas qualification, COMCAT 1, COMCAT 2, COMCAT 3, COMCAT 4, Other relevant commercial catering, electrical, gas or mechanical qualifications
Applicants do not necessarily need to hold every COMCAT qualification. Relevant industry experience and technical capability will also be considered.
Successful overseas applicants will be required to satisfy applicable Australian visa, licensing and competency requirements.
Highly Regarded Experience
Experience servicing equipment manufactured by companies such as Rational, Hobart, Winterhalter, Electrolux Professional, Blue Seal, Moffat, Falcon, Lincat Merrychef, Convotherm, Unox, Washtech or similar commercial catering manufacturers.
Experience across both cooking equipment and warewashing equipment is particularly valuable.
