Company Commercial Manager – Galway, Ireland

Clear Progression to Commercial Director | Main Contractor | €125,000 + Profit Share & Benefits

Acrow Recruitment has been retained exclusively by an established and highly successful Irish Main Contractor to appoint a Company Commercial Manager based in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland.

This is a senior, business-critical appointment offering an experienced commercial professional the opportunity to take responsibility for the commercial function across a strong portfolio of projects and, importantly, a clear succession pathway to Commercial Director.

The company has a substantial multi-million-euro project pipeline across the West of Ireland and an excellent reputation for delivering commercial, residential and general building projects.

This opportunity may particularly appeal to an experienced Commercial Manager currently working in the UK who is considering relocating or returning to Ireland and wants to secure a senior, long-term position outside Dublin.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, you will take commercial responsibility for a diverse pipeline of live projects and upcoming developments while leading and developing the company's surveying team.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and mentoring the Quantity Surveying team across multiple projects, with Senior or Project Quantity Surveyors managing the day-to-day commercial operations on individual sites.
  • Taking responsibility for commercial performance, cost control and profitability across active projects.
  • Reviewing monthly CVRs, forecasts and project financial performance.
  • Overseeing subcontractor procurement, appointments and commercial negotiations.
  • Managing contractual risk, variations and final accounts.
  • Providing regular commercial and financial reporting to the Company Directors.
  • Representing the business in senior-level commercial negotiations and meetings.
  • Working closely with the Commercial Director and senior leadership team on procurement strategy, project pipeline and commercial decision-making.
  • Driving commercial discipline, efficiency and continuous improvement across the business.

Progression to Commercial Director

A key attraction of this appointment is the opportunity for longer-term progression.

The successful candidate will initially work closely with the existing Commercial Director while taking increasing ownership of the company's commercial function.

For someone who demonstrates the required leadership capability, commercial judgement and performance, there is a clear pathway to progress into the Commercial Director position.

Candidate Profile

We are interested in speaking with:

  • Experienced Commercial Managers with a strong main-contracting background.
  • Senior commercial professionals currently managing multiple projects and surveying teams.
  • High-performing Senior Quantity Surveyors who are already operating at a senior leadership level and are ready to progress into full commercial management.

Candidates should ideally have:

  • A minimum of 7 years' relevant commercial experience within a main contractor.
  • Experience within general building, commercial and/or residential construction.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of cost reporting, CVRs, procurement, subcontract management, variations and final accounts.
  • Demonstrable experience managing and developing Quantity Surveyors.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to communicate effectively with company directors, clients and subcontractors.
  • Experience in the Irish or UK construction market.

Location

The position is based in Galway, Ireland, with the company's project portfolio predominantly located throughout the West of Ireland.

Applications are particularly welcomed from Irish construction professionals currently based in the UK who are considering relocating home, as well as candidates already based in Ireland who can reasonably commute to Galway.

Package

The company is offering an executive-level remuneration package for the right person, including:

Basic salary up to €125,000, depending on experience, together with a company profit-share bonus and benefits package.
