We are working with a rapidly growing civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering major projects across the UK. Due to continued expansion and a strong secured workload, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Manager to take ownership of a significant portfolio of works valued between £70m - £100m+.
This is a senior leadership role offering the chance to influence business strategy, drive commercial performance, and play a key role in the future growth of the organisation.
The RoleReporting directly to the Commercial Director, you will have full responsibility for the commercial performance of a portfolio of projects, ensuring robust governance, maximising profitability, managing risk, and leading a high-performing commercial team.
Working closely with operational leadership, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered commercially successfully while maintaining strong client relationships and supporting future business growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and commercial professionals.
- Manage the commercial performance of a portfolio valued at £70m-£100m+.
- Drive margin improvement, cash collection, forecasting and financial performance.
- Oversee CVRs, cost-to-complete forecasting and commercial reporting.
- Manage contractual matters, claims, compensation events and final accounts.
- Provide commercial leadership on NEC, JCT and bespoke forms of contract.
- Support procurement strategies and subcontractor management.
- Identify, mitigate and manage commercial risks.
- Present commercial and financial performance to senior leadership and board-level stakeholders.
- Support work-winning activities and help secure future projects.
We're keen to speak with experienced Commercial Managers, Senior Commercial Managers, Managing Quantity Surveyors or senior commercial leaders from a civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities background.
You will ideally possess:
- Significant experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, water, highways, rail or energy sectors.
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 essential).
- Proven experience leading commercial teams and managing large project portfolios.
- Expertise in claims management, compensation events, final accounts and dispute resolution.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of improving profitability and cash flow.
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- Senior leadership position with genuine influence across the business.
