Role Overview
Exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Engineer to work on the delivery, configuration, and support of intelligent lighting control systems
Hands-on role involving on-site commissioning, client training, and technical support across commercial and industrial projects
Responsible for ensuring systems are installed, tested, and handed over to a high operational standard
Involves preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive troubleshooting, and system upgrades
Key Responsibilities
- On-Site Commissioning & Support
- Deliver full end-to-end commissioning of lighting control systems, including testing and client sign-off
- Provide in-person training for clients and internal commissioning engineers
- Perform headend installations, IP network configuration, and system diagnostics
- Carry out routine preventative maintenance (PPM) and fault-finding
- Offer expert technical advice and responsive aftercare support to end users
- Documentation & Reporting
- Submit daily Site Attendance Reports (SARs) and snag reports
- Conduct on-site and remote health checks, generating detailed reports
- Regularly back up and update system databases to shared servers
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date site-specific documentation
- Health & Safety & Compliance
- Maintain valid ECS / CSCS card for site access
- Complete ongoing H&S training including “Flick” modules
- Uphold all safety procedures while working independently on client premises
- Continuous Learning & Communication
- Stay updated with new lighting technologies and system changes
- Identify upgrade or remedial opportunities and report findings to key account managers
- Collaborate with commissioning supervisors and sales for project coordination
- Provide feedback to improve products, services and commissioning processes
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience in lighting control commissioning, testing and technical handover
- Strong understanding of DALI protocols, relay circuits, and lighting integration
- Skilled in IP network configuration (routers, gateways, user interfaces)
- Comfortable with fault diagnosis, headend installation, and reactive support
- Previous experience delivering client training and creating technical reports
- Familiar with product lifecycle support, including RMA processing and system optimisation
Qualifications & Certifications
- 18th Edition electrician qualification (preferred)
- Valid ECS / CSCS card for site access (essential)
- Formal training or background in electrical systems or lighting technology
- Understanding of system documentation, database backups and compliance
Personal Attributes
- Physically capable: must lift and carry up to 10kg, commute daily, and stand for extended periods
- Analytical, methodical, and detail-focused when testing and reporting
- Excellent communicator – confident when liaising with clients, contractors and internal teams
- Able to work independently while also collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
- Flexible and proactive, with a willingness to occasionally work outside core hours
