Commissioning Manager – Energy from Waste / High Temperature Incineration – County Durham – 5 Month Contract – Outside IR35 – £600-650/day

Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead the commissioning programme on a major Energy from Waste / High Temperature Incineration (HTI) facility in County Durham who has experience of combustion commissioning.

This is a 5-month contract, deemed to fall outside of IR35, with a day rate of £600-650 depending on experience. The project runs from mid-to-late August through to December/January and requires someone who can take ownership of commissioning from mechanical completion through to final performance testing and operational handover.

This is not a role for someone who has only supported commissioning. The successful Commissioning Manager will have a proven track record of leading commissioning activities on complex process plants and be comfortable taking technical and programme ownership from day one.

Key aspects of the Commissioning Manager role include;

  • Leading the complete commissioning programme from mechanical completion through cold commissioning, hot commissioning, first fire, performance testing and final handover
  • Managing multidisciplinary teams covering mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation and process engineering
  • Owning commissioning plans, schedules, system handovers, readiness reviews and commissioning documentation
  • Leading loop checks, instrument calibration, PLC, DCS and SCADA testing activities
  • Managing first fire, kiln warm-up, hot commissioning and plant optimisation
  • Driving performance testing, emissions compliance and operational acceptance
  • Working closely with EPC contractors, specialist vendors, operations and senior management throughout the project
  • Ensuring commissioning activities are delivered safely whilst maintaining programme and regulatory compliance

The successful Commissioning Manager is likely to have experience knowledge of some of the following;

  • Energy from Waste (EfW)
  • High Temperature Incineration (HTI)
  • Rotary kilns
  • Thermal treatment plants
  • Waste management
  • Biomass
  • Power generation
  • Process plants
  • Chemical plants
  • Heavy industrial commissioning

The Commissioning Manager will ideally have experience with;

  • Boilers and combustion systems
  • PLC, DCS and SCADA control systems
  • Electrical and instrumentation commissioning
  • Safety systems and process control
  • Functional testing and performance acceptance
  • HAZOP, PSSR and commissioning documentation
  • Managing large multidisciplinary commissioning teams
  • Contractor management and stakeholder coordination

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Commissioning Manager looking for a technically challenging contract where they’ll take complete ownership of commissioning a complex industrial facility through to successful handover.
