The Purpose of this role is:
To support the development and implementation of cross-cutting policies, projects and processes that enable the Council to meet its equity, equality and diversity objectives.
In this role you will:
Book in the consultation opportunities and directly support with some consultation events with communities and the voluntary and community sector on the council's draft Equity Strategy. Analysing findings from consultation and national and local research reports and statistics to be used to inform the Equity Strategy and council service provision. Capture learning relating to best practice around community engagement and consultation to be shared across the council.
Work with council teams to advise them on compliance with equalities-related legislation and best practice around promoting equity. This includes supporting services to respond to equalities and equity related queries and complaints, and with equality impact assessments. It also may involve discussing with services how they can support and feed into the development of the council's Equity Strategy.
Review the council's equality impact assessment (EqIA) process for staff so that it can better collect data on equalities-related risks and identify mitigating actions against those risks. Work with the Equity and Community Power Manager to develop measurable key performance indicators around EqIAs.
Administer grant funding for events run by the voluntary and community sector relating to equity that meet the council's criteria for this fund and record feedback on events and any information on impacts.
Assist with the effective running of the council's Inclusion and Equity Panel that drives service improvements in respect of equity within Council practice and in influencing practice more widely in the city. This could include preparing and presenting reports, and supporting with wider administrative aspects of the Panel like recruitment, and inducting new members.
Proactively keep up-to-date with relevant equity, equality, diversity, and community power issues, initiatives and good practice, and ensure relevant information is shared within the Council and with partners.
Essential Experience:
*Experience in developing trust and good relationships with marginalised and under-represented communities, and ability to do so within the voluntary and community sector
*Experience of working in project teams and supporting with monitoring outcomes, outputs and risks
*Experience working with internal teams and external partners to achieve shared objectives
*Using data to inform decision making
