1st Step Solutions are supporting a building services engineering company who have an opportunity for a Compliance Manager based in Grays, Essex.

This is a key role within the organisation, requiring a strong combination of electrical technical knowledge, commercial awareness, compliance management and practical project experience.

Role overview:
The Compliance Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the companies electrical works are delivered in accordance with applicable legislation, standards, specifications, drawings and client requirements.
Alongside electrical compliance responsibilities, the role will provide Electrical Quantity Surveying / commercial support, ensuring that electrical packages are properly scoped, valued, controlled and commercially managed.
The role will also undertake Authorised Person (AP) duties where formally appointed, ensuring that electrical systems and associated activities are managed safely and in accordance with the company's procedures and relevant electrical safety rules.
The successful candidate will be a technically strong and commercially aware individual who can operate both strategically and hands-on across live construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage electrical compliance and quality across company projects.
  • Ensure electrical works comply with relevant legislation, British Standards, IET requirements, project specifications and client requirements.
  • Carry out site inspections, audits and quality checks.
  • Oversee electrical testing, commissioning, certification and handover documentation.
  • Identify and close out defects, non-conformances and compliance issues.
  • Manage electrical RAMS, inspection and test plans and relevant compliance documentation.
  • Act as Authorised Person (AP) where suitably qualified, appointed and authorised, including electrical isolations, permits, switching and safe systems of work.
  • Manage electrical packages commercially, including budgets, valuations, variations, costs and final accounts.
  • Review subcontractor quotations, applications and performance.
  • Monitor labour, material and subcontractor costs to protect project margins.
  • Support Project Managers and Site Managers with electrical, technical and commercial issues.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, main contractors and subcontractors on electrical and compliance matters.
  • Maintain company electrical compliance procedures, registers and records.
  • Identify operational, technical and commercial risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Keep the business up to date with relevant changes to electrical standards, legislation and industry requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement in electrical quality, safety, compliance and commercial performance.
Requirements
  • Proven experience within electrical contracting / MEP construction.
  • Experience in an Electrical QS, Compliance Manager, Electrical Manager or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of electrical standards, compliance and health & safety.
  • Experience with valuations, variations, cost control and subcontractor management.
  • Experience with electrical QA, inspections and project handover.
  • AP experience and appropriate competence/authorisation for the systems being managed.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Commercially aware with a focus on project profitability and risk management.
