Salary: Up to £33,000
Working Pattern: Monday–Friday | 8:40am–4:30pm | Flexible working hours between 7:00am–7:00pm

About the Role

On behalf of our client, we are looking to recruit an experienced Compliance Officer – Fire Safety to join their Operations – Compliance team.

This is a varied role suited to someone with experience in fire safety, health and safety, property compliance or a similar environment. You’ll be responsible for coordinating fire safety and wider statutory compliance activity across the property portfolio, ensuring inspections, assessments, records and remedial actions are planned, monitored and progressed within agreed timescales.

Working closely with the Compliance Manager, colleagues, contractors and external stakeholders, you’ll maintain accurate compliance information, support audit and assurance activity and provide practical advice on fire safety matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Fire Risk Assessment programmes, including scheduling assessments and reviews and maintaining oversight of programme coverage.
  • Review Fire Risk Assessments for completeness and clarity, raising queries with assessors where required.
  • Translate identified actions into clear work requirements and coordinate remedial works through to completion.
  • Provide practical fire safety advice and guidance to colleagues, contractors and customers.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant fire safety legislation, guidance and recognised good practice.
  • Raise, coordinate and monitor orders and work packages arising from Fire Risk Assessments, inspections, audits and other compliance activity.
  • Track actions through to completion, maintaining clear evidence and escalating high-risk, overdue or unresolved matters.
  • Undertake site inspections and checks to verify the completion and quality of remedial works.
  • Work with surveyors, operational teams and contractors to ensure corrective works are planned and delivered safely and effectively.
  • Maintain compliance trackers, systems and forward programmes for fire safety and other assigned statutory compliance areas.
  • Coordinate inspections, servicing and assurance activity, ensuring appointments, access, supporting information and certification are managed effectively.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory inspections and assurance reviews.
  • Maintain accurate, current and audit-ready compliance records, certificates, assessments and action logs.
  • Produce routine reports and management information, highlighting due activity, exceptions, emerging risks and required actions.
  • Identify data gaps and support improvements to compliance systems, processes and document control.
  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors, consultants and relevant external stakeholders.
  • Support the procurement, mobilisation and ongoing management of specialist contractors.
  • Monitor assigned contract activity, expenditure and service performance.
  • Identify opportunities for service improvements and more effective compliance delivery.

Experience Required:

  • Previous experience coordinating fire safety, health and safety, property compliance or similar inspection and assurance programmes.
  • Practical knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, Fire Risk Assessments and the management of remedial actions.
  • Experience maintaining compliance records, trackers and evidence to support reporting, audit and assurance activity.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, inspections and corrective works across occupied or operational properties.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when managing compliance data, records and documentation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to provide practical advice and produce concise reports.
  • The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and escalate risks appropriately.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and compliance, asset or works-management systems.
  • A proactive, accountable and solutions-focused approach.
  • A relevant fire safety, health and safety, property compliance or technical qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • A NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent would be advantageous, although candidates willing to work towards an appropriate qualification will also be considered.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience within local authority, housing, facilities management or a public-sector property environment would be advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence is required to meet the travel requirements of the role.
