We are recruiting an experienced Conservation Officer to provide short-term support within a busy Historic Environment team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced heritage or conservation professional to work across a diverse area containing listed buildings, conservation areas, registered parks and gardens, scheduled monuments and other significant heritage assets.
## The Role
You will provide specialist conservation and heritage advice, supporting the assessment and determination of planning and listed building consent applications.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assessing listed building consent and planning applications.
- Providing specialist advice on proposals affecting listed buildings, conservation areas and other heritage assets.
- Responding to pre-application enquiries.
- Preparing consultation responses, reports and recommendations.
- Undertaking site visits as required.
- Supporting conservation area, heritage and policy work.
- Assisting with Buildings at Risk cases.
- Liaising with applicants, agents, Historic England, local organisations and other stakeholders.
- Attending meetings and representing the Historic Environment team when required.
## About You
We are looking for someone with:
A degree or postgraduate qualification in Building Conservation, Historic Environment, Planning, Architecture or a related discipline. Previous experience as a Conservation Officer or within a similar historic environment role. Good knowledge of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. Knowledge of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). Understanding of Historic England guidance and conservation best practice. Experience assessing proposals affecting heritage assets. Strong report-writing and communication skills. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.### Desirable
Membership of IHBC, RTPI, RIBA or another relevant professional body would be advantageous, along with previous Local Planning Authority experience, conservation area appraisal work, heritage enforcement or Buildings at Risk experience.
## Working Arrangements
The position offers a predominantly hybrid working arrangement, combining home working with site visits and occasional office attendance. Site visits are expected approximately 1–2 days per week.
