Location:                         Coleshill or Coventry

Working Pattern:          Site based with typically 4 days on site and 1 day working from home

Salary:                             £60,000 - £65,514, 12% pen, Health + 25 days -

(Scope for an additional £5,000, subject to approval for exceptional candidates)

Programme:                   HS2 Phase One BBV Main Works Civils £6bn

Career Progression:    Senior Construction Manager £80,000 - £90,000 + pkg

Please Note:                  This is a permanent local role. No lodge, subsistence, car allowance or commuting expenses are provided. Business travel between HS2 sites is reimbursed.

Help Deliver Britain's Largest Infrastructure Project

Charlton Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of HS2 Ltd for two Construction Managers to join the client team supporting the delivery of the £6bn BBV Main Works Civils programme.

We have one position based in Coleshill and one based in Coventry.

Working client side alongside BBV, you will provide construction assurance across major civil engineering works, ensuring construction is delivered safely, to specification, in accordance with approved designs and in compliance with HS2 standards.

This is not a traditional contractor Construction Manager role. You'll act as the client's representative on site, providing independent checks (assurance) across safety, quality, productivity, environmental compliance and construction methodology while supporting the successful delivery of one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes.

The Project

Provide Client Construction Management Working alongside the main contractor BBV Joint Venture (Balfour Beatty & Vinci plc) on Design & build £6bn Main Works Civils Contract.  The BBV Main Works Civils programme includes:

  • Major reinforced concrete structures (bias)
  • Bridges, viaducts and highways infrastructure
  • Large earthworks including cuttings and embankments
  • Complex interfaces with rail, highways and utilities

The Role

Working within the integrated HS2 project team, you'll monitor site activities, identify emerging risks and provide practical construction advice to project teams.

You'll regularly oversee high risk activities including heavy lifting, earthworks, reinforced concrete construction, temporary works and working at height, recording inspections and progress using HS2 electronic reporting systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide construction assurance across all site activities
  • Review RAMS, Work Package Plans, ITPs, WIR and construction documentation
  • Monitor quality, safety and environmental compliance
  • Verify works are delivered in accordance with approved designs and specifications
  • Identify Early Warnings, construction risks and potential delivery issues
  • Support Project Managers with construction advice and technical assurance
  • Participate in site inspections, safety tours and interface meetings
  • Maintain accurate electronic site records and progress reports
  • Build effective relationships with BBV, designers and HS2 stakeholders

About You

We're interested in experienced construction professionals from engineering or trade backgrounds who have delivered major heavy civils projects (highways, rail, airports, structures, heavy construciton etc) with significant varied experience on site & understand the construction process.

Typical backgrounds include:

  • Construction Manager
  • Site Supervisor
  • Works Manager
  • General Foreman
  • Sub Agent
  • Section Engineer
  • NEC Supervisor
  • Clerk of Works

You'll also have:

  • Experience delivering heavy civils, highways, rail, structures, water or earthworks projects
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and construction health and safety
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and construction documentation
  • CSCS Card and SMSTS qualification
  • Ability to commute daily to either the Coleshill or Coventry project area
