Summary We’re seeking an experienced Construction Site Manager to join a major Waste to Energy project based in London. This role is ideal for a practical, safety‑focused construction professional with experience managing complex, large‑scale structural or mechanical projects. You’ll take charge of on‑site delivery, ensuring works are executed to the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency.
Location and Working Pattern London – site‑based, full‑time, project appointment.
Client Overview Our client is a specialist engineering and construction business delivering large‑scale industrial and energy projects across the UK.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all on‑site construction activities.
- Plan and manage structural steelwork erection and associated works.
- Oversee site labour, subcontractors and supervision to meet programme requirements.
- Track progress and resolve performance or resource issues quickly.
- Maintain close coordination with project management, engineering and commercial teams.
- Liaise professionally with project stakeholders, including the principal contractor and client representatives.
- Ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and RAMS.
- Maintain high health, safety and environmental standards.
- Manage permits, lifting operations and coordination with other site contractors.
- Oversee quality inspections and resolve defects promptly.
- Record progress, variations and relevant documentation.
- Proven background as a Site Manager, Construction Manager or Senior Site Supervisor.
- Strong experience working on structural steelwork, heavy engineering, industrial construction, or energy sector projects.
- Excellent understanding of construction health and safety requirements.
- Competence in interpreting technical drawings, specifications and programmes.
- Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Confident leadership with a proactive, problem‑solving approach.
- Familiarity with lifting operations, temporary works, and related site management responsibilities.
- Relevant engineering or construction qualification.
- Previous experience working on energy recovery or large process plant projects.

The Opportunity
FJ Booth Construction Ltd is looking for an experienced Construction Site Manager to join our team on a major Waste to Energy project in London.
This is a key site-based position responsible for managing and coordinating FJ Booth's site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, to the required quality standards and in accordance with the project programme.
We are looking for a strong, practical Site Manager who is comfortable working within a major construction environment and has experience managing structural steelwork, mechanical handling, heavy engineering or similar construction packages.
Key Responsibilities
As Site Manager, you will take day-to-day responsibility for FJ Booth's site operations, including:
- Manage and coordinate all FJ Booth construction activities on site.
- Plan and manage structural steelwork erection and associated construction activities.
- Manage site labour, supervision and subcontractors to ensure works are adequately resourced.
- Coordinate daily and weekly work activities against the construction programme.
- Monitor progress and identify potential delays, constraints and resource requirements.
- Work closely with the Project Manager, engineering, fabrication and commercial teams.
- Liaise professionally with the client, Principal Contractor, other subcontractors and relevant site stakeholders.
- Ensure works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, RAMS and project requirements.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
- Ensure site teams comply with company and project-specific HSE procedures.
- Coordinate permits, lifting operations, access requirements and interfaces with other contractors.
- Ensure appropriate toolbox talks, briefings and site communications are undertaken.
- Monitor workmanship and quality, identifying and resolving issues promptly.
- Coordinate deliveries, materials, plant and equipment to support the programme.
- Manage changes and site issues, ensuring relevant information is communicated to the Project Manager and commercial team.
- Maintain accurate site records, progress information and supporting documentation.
- Support the identification and recording of variations and additional works.
- Attend client, coordination, progress and planning meetings as required.
- Promote a professional, solutions-focused approach across the site team.
We are looking for an experienced construction professional who can confidently manage people, programme, safety and site delivery within a demanding major-project environment.
You should ideally have:
- Proven experience as a Site Manager, Construction Manager or Senior Site Supervisor.
- Experience within structural steelwork, heavy engineering, industrial construction, energy, petrochemical or similar major projects.
- Strong understanding of structural steel erection and associated site activities.
- Experience managing direct labour and subcontractors.
- Strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and programmes.
- Experience working with RAMS, permits and site-specific safe systems of work.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set clear expectations and maintain standards.
- Confident communication skills when dealing with clients, contractors, site teams and senior management.
- A proactive and practical approach to resolving site issues.
Candidates should hold relevant site management qualifications, ideally including:
- SMSTS
- CSCS – appropriate management-level card
- CCNSG Safety Passport, where required by the project
- First Aid qualification
- Relevant construction, engineering or management qualification would be advantageous
Experience of lifting operations, temporary works and other relevant site management responsibilities would also be beneficial.
