Location: Mexico | 2-Year Contract | Major Civil Infrastructure Project
Are you an experienced Contracts and Commercial Manager with a strong background in major civil infrastructure projects?
Our client is seeking a highly experienced commercial professional to join a major infrastructure project based in Mexico. This is a 2-year contract opportunity for someone with extensive experience in heavy civil engineering, contract administration and claims management.
Spanish speaking skills would be highly advantageous, although they are not essential.
The Role
Working closely with the Resident Engineer and wider project team, you will take responsibility for the commercial and contractual management of significant civil construction works.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and preparing recommendations on contractors' applications for payment, variations, claims and extensions of time.
- Ensuring contractors fulfil their contractual obligations in relation to cost management, cost control and financial reporting.
- Providing contractual interpretation and clarification across the civil construction contracts.
- Preparing monthly financial reports, cash flow forecasts and earned value reporting.
- Supporting the Resident Engineer and wider project team on contractual and commercial matters.
- Providing recommendations regarding the application of liquidated damages where appropriate.
- Maintaining a detailed claims register, including potential time and cost implications.
- Evaluating contractors' claims and attending claim and commercial meetings.
- Assisting with the negotiation and resolution of claims relating to both time and cost.
- Preparing recommendations and supporting documentation to enable the successful resolution and close-out of claims.
- Advising on and assisting with the resolution of contractual disputes.
- Preparing reports, schedules, presentations, witness statements and other documentation required for negotiations or formal dispute resolution processes, including potential presentation to a DAB.
About You
To be considered, you will ideally have:
- 10+ years' experience working within heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- A strong background in contracts and commercial management.
- Experience working on port development projects and/or heavy-duty pavement construction.
- A detailed understanding and practical experience of FIDIC contracts, including their management and implementation.
- Strong experience managing contractor payments, variations, claims and extensions of time.
- Experience with cost management, cost control, financial reporting and cash flow forecasting.
- The ability to confidently evaluate, negotiate and resolve complex contractual claims and disputes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A relevant professional qualification and project management experience.
- Spanish language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.
