South West Region
Full-time, Permanent
Our client is a well-established, privately-owned main contractor delivering a varied mix of construction projects for both public and private sector clients. They've built a strong reputation as a contractor clients come back to, not through being the cheapest, but through consistently delivering on time, on budget and to a high standard, while being easy and collaborative to work with. As an independent business, decisions get made quickly, and the people leading projects on site have real authority to do so.
They're now looking for an experienced Contracts Manager to take responsibility for the successful delivery of a number of live projects simultaneously, acting as the key operational link between site teams, the client and the wider business.
YOUR NEW ROLE
As Contracts Manager, you'll take full operational responsibility for the delivery of multiple projects concurrently, ensuring they're delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the quality standard clients have come to expect. You'll manage and support Site Managers across your portfolio, act as the primary point of contact for clients and consultants on live schemes, and work closely with the commercial and pre-construction teams to ensure projects are set up to succeed from day one.

-
Take overall responsibility for the safe, timely and commercially successful delivery of a portfolio of live construction projects
-
Manage, mentor and support Site Managers and site-based teams across multiple live projects
-

-
Ensure robust health & safety standards are maintained across all sites, including CDM compliance
-
Coordinate subcontractor and supply chain performance on site, resolving issues quickly and fairly
-
Chair and contribute to progress meetings with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders
-
Support pre-construction and handover processes to ensure projects are properly set up before mobilisation
-
Contribute to a positive, collaborative site culture in line with the company's values
ABOUT YOU
-
Proven experience as a Contracts Manager (or a strong Senior Site Manager ready to step up) with a main contractor
-
Background delivering construction or refurbishment projects for public and/or private sector clients
-
Strong understanding of construction programming, budgets and health & safety/CDM requirements
-
SMSTS, First Aid, CSCS (Black/Gold) as standard; relevant degree or HNC/HND in Construction Management desirable
-
A hands-on, solutions-focused leadership style — comfortable managing multiple sites and people at different levels of experience
-
Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to build trust and manage expectations under pressure
-
Full UK driving licence
SALARY AND BENEFITS
-
£70,000 – £75,000 basic salary, dependent on experience
-
Car or car allowance
-
A genuinely supportive senior leadership team and a business where operational decisions aren't buried in bureaucracy
-
Secured pipeline of varied, technically interesting work — not repetitive volume-build
-
Real influence over how projects are run and delivered
-
Pension and wider benefits package
-
Long-term stability with a business that has a strong reputation and low staff turnover
