Controls Engineer – Automation
£60,000–£65,000 Basic + £5,500 Car Allowance + Bonus + £2,500 Call-Out Allowance
Cheshire | Hybrid (typically up to 3 days from home)
Looking for a Controls Engineering role where you can own projects from concept through to commissioning, while still having the flexibility to work from home?
I'm recruiting for a growing systems integrator that designs and delivers bespoke automation solutions for customers across the UK.
Working as part of a close-knit engineering team, you'll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle- from PLC software development and testing through to commissioning, customer handover and ongoing software support.
The role
- PLC & HMI software development (predominantly Siemens TIA Portal, with some Allen-Bradley)
- Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
- Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- UK commissioning and customer handover
- PLC fault finding, software modifications and continuous improvement
- Remote customer support and technical troubleshooting
- Working closely with a multi-discipline team and customers throughout project delivery
What does the travel look like?
Unlike many Controls Engineering roles, this isn't constant travelling.
Most projects involve planned commissioning phases, typically 2–3 trips a year lasting around 4–6 weeks, with the remainder of your time split between home, the Cheshire office and occasional customer visits.
You'll ideally come from:
- Systems Integration
- Materials Handling / Conveyors
- Robotics
- Special Purpose Machinery
- Industrial Automation
You'll have experience programming PLC-based control systems and enjoy seeing projects through from development to successful commissioning.
Why join?
- £60,000–£65,000 basic salary
- £5,500 car allowance
- Company bonus
- £2,500 annual call-out payment
- Hybrid working (typically up to 3 days from home)
- Genuine cradle-to-grave engineering responsibility
- Small, collaborative engineering team where your ideas are listened to
- Led by people who understand Controls Engineering and encourage ownership rather than micromanagement.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available.
