Core Shop Supervisor

Salary: £40,000 per annum
Hours: 07:00 – 16:00 (Flexible)

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and organised Core Shop Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operation of our core shop department. Previous foundry or core shop experience is advantageous but not essential, as we welcome applicants with strong supervisory, manufacturing, or production management backgrounds.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are met while supporting continuous improvement across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and organise machine workloads on a daily basis.
  • Monitor and check the quality of completed work.
  • Ensure machines are operating efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide hands-on support with machine operation when required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machine and production issues.
  • Monitor and maintain process control procedures.
  • Assist with recruitment activities, including liaising with agencies and conducting interviews.
  • Ensure all cores are prepared and ready for the following day's casting schedule.
  • Order and maintain stock levels of departmental supplies and consumables.
  • Conduct weekly inspections of racking and report any damage.
  • Ensure core boxes are stored in the correct locations.
  • Enforce PPE compliance and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness within the department.
  • Monitor overtime requirements and coordinate weekend working where necessary.
  • Oversee machine maintenance schedules and ensure equipment remains operational.
  • Operate a forklift where required (training can be provided).
  • Maintain effective communication with the planning department.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement within the department.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a manufacturing, engineering, production, or industrial environment.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work across departments.
  • Understanding of quality, safety, and production processes.
  • Forklift licence desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
  • Foundry or core shop experience beneficial but not required.
