About the Role
Teach Now is recruiting a confident and adaptable Cover Supervisor for a busy secondary school in Barnet.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is comfortable taking responsibility for a classroom without the planning and marking commitments of a qualified teacher.
You will provide cover across KS3 and KS4 when teachers are absent, delivering pre-prepared work and ensuring students remain focused, productive and respectful throughout lessons.
The role could particularly suit an experienced Cover Supervisor, HLTA, graduate considering teacher training, sports coach or experienced secondary Teaching Assistant ready to take greater classroom responsibility.
- Supervise classes using work prepared by the absent teacher.
- Explain lesson instructions and ensure students understand the task.
- Maintain a calm and purposeful learning environment.
- Apply the school’s behaviour policy consistently.
- Respond appropriately to questions without being expected to teach new subject content.
- Record attendance and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Support students who require additional guidance during lessons.
- Adapt confidently between subjects and year groups.
- Previous experience working with secondary-aged pupils is highly desirable.
- Strong classroom presence and behaviour-management skills.
- Confidence addressing groups of students independently.
- Good literacy and numeracy.
- Reliability, professionalism and flexibility.
- QTS is not required for this role.
- Enhanced DBS and right to work in the UK.
- Gain valuable whole-class experience.
- Work across a variety of secondary subjects.
- Excellent preparation for future teacher training.
- Support from experienced teaching and pastoral staff.
- Potential for continued long-term opportunities.
Daily pay is determined according to experience and qualifications.
