About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Customs Clearance Coordinator to join a busy operations team within a well-established international logistics organisation.
Working within a fast-paced customs department, you will play a key role in ensuring the compliant and efficient movement of goods into and out of the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, or international logistics who enjoys working in a customer-focused, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit import and export customs declarations using industry-standard customs systems.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, and supporting documentation to ensure accurate customs entries.
- Liaise with customers, customs authorities, port health officials, and internal departments to obtain information and resolve customs queries.
- Ensure customs declarations are completed accurately, compliantly, and within agreed service levels.
- Assist customers with customs classification and tariff-related enquiries.
- Process customs documentation including transit documents, certificates of origin, health documentation, and other cargo control documentation.
- Support duty refund applications, tariff reclassifications, and customs appeals where required.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK customs legislation and regulatory changes.
- Provide guidance on import restrictions, licensing requirements, tariff systems, and customs compliance.
- Use customs and logistics software including CDS, NCTS, Destin8, CNS, Descartes, Sequoia, NES, and related systems.
- Maintain high standards of data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Build positive working relationships with customers and colleagues while contributing to team objectives.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, or international logistics.
- Strong understanding of UK import and export customs procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good numerical and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and confident learning new systems.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Ability to manage a high volume of customs entries while maintaining compliance.
Desirable
- Experience using CDS, CHIEF, NCTS, NES, Destin8, CNS, Sequoia, Descartes, or similar customs systems.
- Knowledge of ETSF warehouse procedures.
- Customs qualifications or relevant industry certifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex customs issues.
