D365 Finance Functional Architect | Contract | Outside IR35
WeDoTech
We are looking for a highly experienced Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Architect to join a major enterprise finance transformation.
This is a specialist Finance role rather than a broad D365 F&O position. We need someone with genuine depth across Accounts Receivable, Cash & Bank Management, taxation, payments and Subscription Billing, capable of designing solutions for complex and sometimes non-standard accounting scenarios.
The programme is moving a large home installations finance operation onto an existing D365 F&O environment, covering billing, deposits, revenue recognition, consumer finance, payments, refunds, reconciliation and financial reporting.
Many of the target processes are still to be defined, making this a hands-on functional architecture and discovery role rather than simply implementing an established design.
The Role
You will own the detailed D365 Finance functional and accounting design, working alongside the Solution Architect, Finance stakeholders and technical teams.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Design D365 Finance configuration across Accounts Receivable, General Ledger and Cash & Bank Management.
- Define financial dimensions, chart-of-account additions, bank accounts and associated finance structures.
- Design customer deposit/prepayment processes including VAT recognition at receipt, deferred income and subsequent application against invoices.
- Define revenue recognition and posting approaches for installation-based billing.
- Configure and design Subscription Billing / billing schedules for one-off rather than traditional recurring transactions.
- Design tax configuration supporting multiple VAT treatments, mixed-rate invoices and date-effective tax changes.
- Own functional design for invoice amendments, cancel-and-reissue processes, credit notes, refunds, compensation and customer credit balances.
- Design bank reconciliation, settlement matching, suspense handling and finance exception reporting.
- Define the accounting and allocation model for consumer-finance/lender settlements, including high-volume remittance files, lender debtor accounts and commission recognition.
- Support payment allocation across card, lender finance, BACS, cheque and digital payment methods.
- Define standard and custom financial reporting requirements and support Trial Balance integration into SAP S/4HANA.
- Translate complex Finance requirements into robust D365 functional designs and clearly identify where standard functionality is insufficient.
This role requires significantly more depth than a generalist D365 Finance consultant. We are looking for:
- Deep functional architecture experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance / D365 F&O Finance.
- Expert knowledge of Accounts Receivable and customer accounting.
- Strong Cash & Bank Management, settlement and reconciliation experience.
- Strong understanding of UK VAT and D365 tax configuration, ideally including mixed-rate and date-effective tax scenarios.
- Experience with customer deposits, prepayments, deferred income and revenue recognition.
- Strong knowledge of Subscription Billing / billing schedules within D365 Finance.
- Experience designing complex credit, rebilling, refund and invoice-correction processes.
- Experience with high-volume payment/remittance allocation or complex debtor settlement processes.
- Ability to understand and defend the accounting treatment behind the proposed system design rather than simply configure requirements provided by others.
This is a role for a genuinely senior D365 Finance specialist who can sit with Finance stakeholders, understand the accounting problem and determine how it should be represented within Dynamics — including recognising when standard F&O functionality will not be enough.
