Job Purpose
Chiltern Railways operate between the West Midlands and London, providing journey options to Aylesbury, Oxford, Birmingham, Stratford-Upon-Avon and other destinations.
The Fleet Performance Team are a crucial function to measure and actively improve the reliability of the Chiltern Railways fleet whilst also supporting other departments and the industry to improve fleet performance. The Team are also critical in leading on the development of data led approaches within the Engineering function and the wider Chiltern Railways function.
The Role involves:
- Supporting the engineering department by ensuring that the performance and reliability of the Chiltern fleet is measured, recorded, analysed and presented to help identify performance improvement activities to meet Chiltern Railways performance targets.
- Use systematic approaches to gather data from various data sources and then use innovative and intelligent techniques to process and analyse to provide key insights to identify historic and emerging performance trends.
- Be responsible for ensuring Fleet delays are correctly collated, processed and then attributed ensuring internal and external attribution challenges are identified where appropriate.
- Support the development and embedding of the data led approach within the Engineering function and the rest of the business.
Location: All Chiltern employees are expected to work on the network 60% of the time. For this role we require a minimum of two days per week at one of the Chiltern Railway Banbury offices. The other days can be worked from another Chiltern location or home – ensuring a minimum of 60% work time in the office.
Key Accountabilities:
- The support the development and maintenance of the Chiltern Engineering Bi Platform
- To build dashboards and reports to drive performance and insight to the directorate
- To capture requirements for dashboards and reports and work with other engineering stakeholders to turn requirements into insight
- To provide training and guidance to engineering on the use of reports and dashboards
- To monitor, review and analyse performance data to establish performance trends and possible solutions
- To support the development and maintenance of Key Performance Indicators and targets for CRCL maintained fleets, including the production of daily, weekly and period internal and external reporting
- To support Fleet delay attribution to ensure that delays are appropriately challenged and attributed with correctly defined root causes
- To fully comply with the Safe Working Instructions, Depot and individual protection measures, issued as controlled documentation
- Assist the warranty process and work with the warranty engineer on areas of common concern
Person Specification:
Essential Criteria
- Highly motivated and proactive who can work both independently and as part of a team, with experience of analysing large data sets
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Experience of working with business intelligence applications such as Microsoft Power BI
- Ability to collect and understand data from various sources and use effective methods to communicate data outputs at all levels
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal form.
- Strong organisational skills
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with Power Apps and Microsoft Flow
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Java or Python
- Knowledge of database design and best practice
- Experience of using problem solving methodologies
