Data Technician
The Role
The role focuses on supporting project and delivery teams by integrating, developing, and enhancing tools, systems, and processes to improve the management of safety, health, environmental, quality and commercial data. It encompasses driving efficiency, Continuous Improvement and innovation across the Region, ensuring data driven decision making and compliance with relevant legislation.
Work with internal teams and external experts to ensure best practices in coding, data management, and operational improvements.
By focusing on these areas, the role aims to deliver significant improvements in operational and commercial performance, carbon reduction, and strategic planning, contributing to Barhale’s continuous improvement and industry leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement tools to streamline HSEQ data capture and analysis, ensuring accurate and efficient reporting
- Automate data heavy processes to reduce administrative overhead
- Develop balanced scorecards and Power BI dashboards to provide live, integrated views of business performance across inspections, waste management, interventions, and audit data
- Support and monitor the deployment of new platforms, such as Ermeo, ensuring effective integration into existing systems
- Oversee quarterly verification of carbon data required for external audits to support compliance with reduction goals
- Implement systems for plant idling data capture and telemetrics, integrating these into a unified dashboard for business use
- Conduct controlled tests to measure the impact of social value programmes, such as community messaging and its effect on public sentiment
- Use findings to enhance social value initiatives and strengthen public relations
- Compare tender outputs with actual performance to identify profitability drivers and opportunities for tender improvement
- Model future work programmes and conduct historical analyses of projects to plan future operations and address potential gaps
- Develop automated reporting tools and trackers to monitor Retention, Debt, WIP, and Cash Position, ensuring the commercial team has access to accurate, timely performance data and key action reminders
- From solution reviews create efficiency models and interrogate through delivery – compile as power BI report
- Compile data and site information from DES reporting into monthly Client reports for discipline leads
- Support with capturing Research and Development activities comprehensively to maximise opportunities for innovation related tax savings
- Setting up scientific testing regimes to study cause vs effect, effort vs reward, effectiveness of different techniques to identify additional areas of tax reduction
About you
Essential
- Experience using data management and reporting tools to collect, analyse, and present information effectively
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications including Word, Excel, OneNote, Planner, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Power App, Power BI, Power Automate
- Ability to develop and maintain basic automated workflows and integrate data across Microsoft 365 platforms
- Understanding of SharePoint Lists, data storage, and information-sharing best practices
- Knowledge of Excel functions, formulas, pivot tables, and reporting techniques
- Basic PowerShell skills to support administration and automation activities
- Understanding of data privacy, security, and governance principles
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve system and data-related issues
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation
Desirable
- Recognised certification for PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint, Python, and SQL
- Knowledge and understanding of Python
