Day Engineer

Mechanical Bias Engineer – 4 On / 4 Off Days Only 

£48,000 – £50,000 per annum - 6:00 - 18:00 - Permanent

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Bias Engineer to join our multi-skilled engineering team on a permanent 4-on, 4-off day shift basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer with strong mechanical and/or welding skills to play a key role in maintaining the efficiency, reliability and safety of a busy production site.

Ideally, you will have previous engineering experience within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment, although candidates with strong relevant manufacturing or industrial experience will also be considered.

The Role

Working as part of the engineering team, you will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and emergency breakdown support, ensuring all plant and equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance to maximise plant efficiency and minimise downtime.
• Provide full emergency breakdown cover for plant and services.
• Diagnose faults and carry out high-quality repair and maintenance work.
• Use mechanical and welding skills to maintain and repair plant and equipment.
• Electrical knowledge or experience would be highly advantageous.
• Ensure all engineering work complies with Health & Safety, Quality and Food Safety standards.
• Complete maintenance paperwork, worksheets and handover records accurately.
• Identify and report potential problems with plant and services.
• Maintain accurate machine history and maintenance records using the Pirana maintenance management system.
• Provide first-line engineering support across the site.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within the factory and workshops.
• Work closely with the wider factory and engineering teams.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency and engineering processes.
• Suggest cost-saving measures and improvements where appropriate.
• Provide fast, safe and effective support to all areas of the site.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

Mechanically biased with solid engineering experience.

Ideally experienced within food manufacturing, FMCG or a similar fast-paced production environment.

Confident carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.

Strong in mechanical maintenance, with welding skills preferred.

Electrically competent or electrically qualified would be an advantage.

Experienced working with production machinery and industrial plant.

A proactive problem solver with excellent attention to detail.

A strong team player who can work effectively with colleagues across the site.

Committed to maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, quality and food safety.

Able to work independently and respond quickly to breakdown situations.
