Morson Talent is recruiting for an Depot Maintenance Support Assistant. This is a hands-on, depot-based position supporting production and workshop teams with the preparation, movement and basic assembly of rail components and equipment. The successful candidate must have a Forklift licence and from a rail engineering, manufacturing, maintenance or depot environment.
Key responsibilities
• Supporting production teams with stripping, cleaning, preparation and minor assembly work.
• Cleaning and preparing components, bogies and railway carriages.
• Identifying raw materials and manufactured components using bills of materials, stores requisitions and manufacturing specifications.
• Operating counterbalance forklift trucks and other materials-handling equipment.
• Operating overhead cranes, electric vehicles and road vehicles where appropriately trained and authorised.
• Transporting equipment and assets safely around the depot.
• Using hand and power tools, including drills, sanders and powered screwdrivers.
• Assisting with the safe dismantling of equipment to component or sub-system level.
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping throughout the workshop and depot.
• Reporting equipment defects, unsafe working practices and potential safety concerns.
• Following all relevant health and safety procedures, working instructions and driving-at-work requirements.
Essential requirements
• A current and valid counterbalance forklift licence.
• Previous forklift driving experience.
• Experience using basic hand and power tools.
• Good practical or mechanical aptitude.
• The ability to understand and follow written working instructions.
• A strong awareness of workplace health and safety.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• A reliable, proactive approach to general housekeeping and safe working.
Desirable experience
• Previous experience within a rail, engineering, manufacturing, maintenance or depot environment.
• Experience operating overhead cranes or other mechanised materials-handling equipment.
• Experience dismantling equipment to component level.
• Awareness of manual handling and basic first aid principles.
