Role Overview

An established international business is looking to recruit an experienced Depot Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation of its Carrington depot. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant running of the site while leading a team, coordinating logistics, and maintaining excellent operational standards. The successful candidate will have a strong background in depot, logistics, or warehouse management and be confident leading people in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the depot, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant working practices.
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise depot staff, including operatives, drivers, and administrative personnel.
  • Oversee container movements, inspections, repairs, and inventory control.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics with internal teams and external transport providers.
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are implemented, maintained, and regularly reviewed.
  • Monitor depot performance, reporting on KPIs, productivity, and operational costs.
  • Manage depot budgets and support effective cost control.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, contractors, and key stakeholders.
  • Support wider operational projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Experience Required

  • Proven experience managing a depot, warehouse, logistics, transport, or container operation.
  • Experience leading operational teams within a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation, compliance, and risk management.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and operational costs.
  • Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office and operational management systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Forklift licence and/or CPC qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience with container handling, storage, repairs, or yard operations would be beneficial.

Salary, Benefits and Working Pattern

  • Full-time, permanent position.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Location

The role is based in Carrington and is fully site-based, overseeing the day-to-day operation of a busy depot.
