Deputy Head of Electrical Engineering

I'm currently supporting a well-established engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a Deputy Head of Electrical Engineering as part of its long-term succession planning. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced electrical engineering professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with team management and business development.
The successful candidate will work closely with the current Head of Department, taking on increasing responsibility with a clear pathway into leading the function in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day management and strategic development of the Electrical Engineering division.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and oversee employee development.
- Prepare technical proposals, resource plans, and commercial quotations for clients.
- Lead technical and commercial discussions with customers, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Support engineers across national and international power and industrial projects, including occasional site visits.
- Help deliver departmental growth by contributing to revenue targets, budget management, and client relationship development.
- Work alongside internal recruitment teams to identify and attract high-quality engineering talent.
What They're Looking For
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a similar discipline.
- Around 10+ years' experience within the energy or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems associated with power generation (conventional, renewable and/or nuclear) or industrial power distribution.
- Experience delivering electrical engineering projects from design through to installation or commissioning.
- Previous leadership, mentoring, or line management experience.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to build long-term client relationships.
- Fluent German (minimum C1) and strong English communication skills.
- Willingness to travel when required across Germany and internationally.
