Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home

We are recruiting for two experienced Deputy Managers to join Children’s Residential Services in Coventry.
These are interim positions supporting established residential homes for children and young people with emotional, behavioural, mental health and complex needs.
The roles would suit experienced children's residential professionals who are confident providing leadership from day one and supporting a Registered Manager with the safe and effective running of a home.
### The Roles
There are two opportunities available:
Emergency Placement Home – providing short-term emergency placements for children and young people, typically presenting with mental health, emotional and behavioural needs.
Long-Term Residential Home – a small two-bed home providing longer-term placements for young people with emotional and complex needs.
The duties and working arrangements are broadly the same across both services.
### Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will:
- Support the day-to-day operational management of the home
- Coordinate staff rotas and ensure appropriate staffing levels
- Provide supervision, coaching and support to residential staff
- Support staff development and performance
- Undertake quality assurance and audit activities
- Review paperwork and children's case records
- Produce reports and maintain accurate documentation
- Attend and lead meetings
- Build positive relationships with children and young people
- Work effectively with families, external professionals and partner agencies
- Support regulatory compliance within the home
- Assist with Ofsted requirements and inspections
- Maintain and update regulatory documentation
- Support the Registered Manager in maintaining high standards of care
- Provide leadership and operational oversight when the Registered Manager is unavailable
Each home has approximately 13 residential care staff, with management responsibilities shared between the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager.
### Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
Significant experience working within children's residential care Minimum Level 3 Diploma/NVQ in Residential Childcare Previous experience managing or supervising staff within a residential setting Strong knowledge of children's residential care practice Ability to step into an interim position and hit the ground running Strong leadership and relationship-building skills Confidence working with children and young people with complex needs Ability to work effectively with external professionals and partner agencies Willingness to undertake shift, weekend and on-call responsibilities Ability to meet the required Enhanced DBS and Schedule 2 compliance checksA driving licence would be beneficial but is not essential.
### Working Pattern
This is a fully onsite position. Standard hours will generally be around 9am–5pm, although flexibility is essential due to the nature of residential care.
The Deputy Manager will be required to undertake shift work, approximately one weekend per month and on-call duties. There may be occasions when you are required to attend the home outside normal working hours in response to an urgent situation.
### Pay & Additional Payments
Standard rate: £20.29 per hour PAYE Weekend enhancement: Additional 10%
### Contract
These positions are being recruited on an interim basis due to permanent vacancies within the service. The initial requirement is expected to be approximately 3–6 months. Although, could become permanent for the right candidates.
