Deputy Nursery Manager in Southwark, Greater London

Posted by UCM Education

£16 – £16.50 an hour

Southwark · Permanent

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic and experienced Deputy Nursery Manager to join a welcoming, family-run nursery in Hounslow. This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident Early Years professional looking to progress into nursery management within a supportive setting that values teamwork, professional development and high-quality childcare.

The position offers an attractive four-day working week on a term-time-only basis, providing an excellent work-life balance with school holidays off. With an hourly rate of £16.00–£16.50, depending on experience, the nursery also offers funded training, staff incentives and opportunities for career progression.

This role would particularly suit an experienced Room Leader, Senior Practitioner or Third in Charge who is ready to take the next step in their career. Previous Deputy Manager experience is not essential, as the nursery is happy to support a strong candidate transitioning into a more senior leadership position.

You will be:

  • Supporting the Nursery Manager with the effective day-to-day running of the setting

  • Providing guidance, encouragement and practical support to the wider Early Years team

  • Managing staff deployment and maintaining appropriate ratios across the nursery

  • Remaining actively involved in the rooms and supporting high-quality childcare practice

  • Supporting the delivery of engaging learning experiences in line with the EYFS

  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and professional practice

  • Supporting colleagues through mentoring, supervision and ongoing feedback

  • Building positive relationships with children, parents and families

  • Assisting with nursery administration, policies and daily operational procedures

  • Promoting a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment for children's learning and development

  • Working closely with the Nursery Manager to support continuous improvement across the setting

  • Taking on additional leadership responsibilities and supporting the nursery in the Manager's absence

The successful candidate will hold a Level 3 Early Years qualification or above and have strong previous experience working within a nursery setting. You will have demonstrated leadership experience as a Room Leader, Senior Practitioner, Third in Charge or Deputy Nursery Manager, alongside a thorough understanding of the EYFS, safeguarding and child development.

We are looking for someone organised, approachable and confident in supporting a team, with the ability to balance leadership responsibilities whilst remaining hands-on with children and colleagues.

Salary: £16.00–£16.50 per hour, depending on experience
Working pattern: Four days per week, term-time only
Weekly hours: To be confirmed

Benefits include:

  • Funded training and professional development

  • Free parking

  • Staff incentives

  • Career progression opportunities

  • Supportive, small family-run nursery environment

  • Term-time-only working with a four-day week
