Job Title: Design and Development Project Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 DOE

Role Overview

EMBS Engineering are recruiting a Design and Development Project Engineer to join a precision and advanced manufacturing business, supporting design and development projects for customers around the world.

This is a customer-facing coordination role, responsible for overseeing project delivery, communication and planning across a range of engineering programmes, including long-term rig projects, smaller specialist packages and development work. The role does not involve direct line management of the design team, but there is genuine scope to develop into a broader project management position as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the delivery of design and development projects, from quotation through to completion, across multiple engineering programmes.

  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules and status reports, and communicate progress to senior management.

  • Act as the main point of contact for customers, providing regular project updates and reporting as required.

  • Manage the flow of engineering drawings and instructions between the design team and manufacturing/assembly.

  • Work closely with the design and development teams to track progress and highlight any issues.

  • Identify potential project risks and help develop and implement mitigation plans.

  • Liaise with manufacturing, quality and engineering colleagues, as well as customers and suppliers, to keep projects on track.
    Record lessons learned and support project close-out in line with company processes.

Essential Requirements

  • A background in engineering, project coordination or project management, ideally within a precision or advanced manufacturing environment.

  • Experience coordinating multiple projects or programmes at the same time, including planning, scheduling and reporting.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence liaising directly with customers as well as internal teams.

  • A working understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation.

  • Highly organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.

  • A flexible approach to changing priorities, and willingness to travel to customer sites in the UK, and occasionally overseas, when required.

  • A full UK driving licence and a valid passport.

Desirable

  • Experience within instrumentation, metrology or gas-turbine environments.
  • Previous exposure to project management tools (such as MS Project) or ERP/MRP systems; full training on the company's in-house system will be provided.
  • A relevant engineering qualification, such as a degree, HNC or HND.
