As we continue our journey of operational improvement and investment, we are seeking a talented and motivated Design Draughtsperson to join our AIRED Engineering & Design team based in Scunthorpe. 

Working within one of Europe's largest steelmaking complexes, you will provide design and draughting support across a diverse portfolio of engineering projects. These projects range from structural steelwork and heavy mechanical plant modifications through to maintenance improvements, capital investment schemes and asset integrity initiatives.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced industrial environment where no two days are the same and your designs will directly contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D engineering drawings for structural and mechanical projects.
  • Develop fabrication, assembly and general arrangement drawings for use by internal workshops and external contractors.
  • Support Design Engineers in the development of engineering solutions from concept through to implementation.
  • Undertake site surveys and gather information to support engineering projects.
  • Update and maintain engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Liaise with operational, maintenance and project teams to ensure design requirements are fully understood.
  • Assist in the preparation of bills of materials and drawing packages.
  • Ensure drawings comply with relevant engineering standards, company procedures and health and safety requirements.
  • Support multidisciplinary engineering projects across the business.

What we need to know about you

We are seeking an enthusiastic engineer who combines strong technical ability with a proactive and practical approach.

Essential Requirements

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Design Engineering or related discipline.
  • Significant experience within an engineering design or draughting environment.
  • Proficient in:
    • SolidWorks
    • AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of both structural and mechanical engineering applications.
  • Experience producing detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Requirements, but not essential:

  • Experience using Advanced Steel software.
  • Experience working within heavy industry, steelmaking, manufacturing or process plant environments.
  • Knowledge of structural steelwork detailing and fabrication.
  • Understanding of engineering calculations and design principles.
  • Experience supporting projects from concept through to site installation.
  • Familiarity with BS5950 and Eurocode design standards.
