About Wright Engineering
Established for over 30 years, Wright Engineering is looking to recruit an experienced Design Engineer / Design Draughtsperson to join our team based in Worksop.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join a successful and vibrant engineering team, working on a range of bespoke material handling, mechanical engineering and structural steelwork projects.
Location: Worksop, S81
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (DOE)
Holiday: 25 days + 8 Bank Holidays
Ideally, you will have previous experience working with:
Heavy-duty conveyors
Chutes and hoppers
Silos and tanks
Pipework and large ductwork
Structural steelwork
Staircases and access platforms
Bespoke material handling equipment
You should be confident attending client sites to carry out surveys and subsequently producing workable General Arrangement (GA) drawings for proposals.
You will also be responsible for taking GA drawings, whether produced by yourself or others, and developing these into complete sets of accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings for the workshop.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working under pressure, using their own initiative and producing accurate, comprehensive manufacturing details. You may also be required to mentor or supervise apprentices and attend client meetings and design reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely within the engineering team to develop bespoke design solutions for material handling and structural steelwork projects.
- Attend sites to carry out surveys and gather information required to produce accurate engineering drawings.
- Produce General Arrangement (GA) and detailed fabrication drawings for:
- Develop 3D layouts and models for manufacturing plants and associated equipment.
- Actively participate in tender packages, providing design input to optimise cost and quality.
- Interpret client specifications, engineering requirements and project scopes.
- Work with apprentices, providing guidance and supporting the development of junior designers.
- Attend client meetings and design reviews when required.
- Produce clear and accurate manufacturing information for the fabrication shop.
- Coordinate information received from clients and third-party suppliers.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar design/draughting role.
- Experience working across a variety of bulk material handling and structural steelwork projects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D/3D, Able to produce 3D layouts and models of manufacturing plants inc conveyor systems, chutes, hoppers, silos, access steelwork.
- Working knowledge of Advance Steel or Tekla.
- Experience with other 3D design software would be advantageous.
- Ability to produce sheet metal developments and DXF files for laser cutting.
- Strong ability to produce comprehensive, clear and accurate 2D manufacturing drawings and GA drawings.
- Experience importing, exporting and inserting files from different software packages, including STP files and Tekla models.
- Ability to coordinate and produce master models using client and third-party supplier information.
- Experience working with laser-scanned data and point clouds.
- Experience using Navisworks to manage, coordinate and create models.
- Competent with Microsoft Word and Excel for producing documentation, reports, drawing registers, material lists and bolt lists.
- Ability to understand structural design calculations and engineering reports.
- Experience interpreting engineering and quality specifications and project scopes.
- Knowledge of CE Regulations.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Computer literate.
- Preferably apprentice trained in an engineering trade or with experience in an engineering management role.
- Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel across the UK for site surveys.
