Hales Group are delighted to be recruiting for a talented and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering business. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a small, hands-on engineering team where you'll be involved in the full product lifecycle, from initial concept through to production.

The Role
You will play a critical role in designing and developing products, ensuring they meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements. You'll work closely with production, quality, and suppliers to bring designs from concept into reality.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce 3D CAD designs for assemblies including sheet metal, plastics, piping systems, and electrical harnesses
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation
- Develop new product concepts and technical design solutions
- Carry out design calculations, analysis, and technical reporting
- Maintain and update documentation within the PDM system
- Support Bills of Materials (BOMs), manuals, and specifications
- Collaborate with Production to resolve design and build issues
- Liaise with Quality on non-conformances and design improvements
- Work with suppliers, particularly sheet metal manufacturers, on technical requirements
- Support prototype builds, testing, and validation activities
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a Design Engineer role (or similar)
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks
- Knowledge of sheet metal design (essential)
- Experience within manufacturing or product development environments
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage workload independently and work as part of a team
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Progression & Flexibility
This role is ideally suited to an experienced Design Engineer, however candidates with solid CAD experience and strong mechanical design fundamentals will also be considered depending on experience level.
