Fire Alarm Designer
£45,000–£55,000 | Four-day working week available | Predominantly hybrid
Location: Home-based with travel to project sites across Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Boston and Lincoln, plus occasional meetings in Warrington.
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fire Alarm Designer to join the Asset Intelligence division of one of the UK’s leading construction and infrastructure groups.
With an order book exceeding £4.1 billion, the business offers exceptional stability and the opportunity to contribute to major Critical National Infrastructure projects across defence, water, energy, transport and telecommunications.
The Opportunity
Working predominantly from home, you will design fire alarm and detection systems for complex, operational environments. The position can also be structured around a four-day working week, provided project and site requirements are met.
As the Fire Alarm Designer, you will work closely with internal engineering teams, specialist subcontractors and project stakeholders to deliver compliant, cost-effective designs from initial survey through to construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities

Develop fire alarm and detection system designs from client specifications and site surveys

Produce detector layouts, PA/VA designs and zone drawings

Prepare cause-and-effect documentation, loop schematics and panel layouts
-
Produce fire strategies, calculations and supporting technical documentation

Ensure compliance with BS 5839, BS 6266, BS 7671 and BS 7273

Review subcontractor designs, specifications and pricing

Provide technical input into supplier orders and subcontract design packages

Attend site surveys, design meetings and 3D model reviews

Identify value-engineering opportunities without compromising compliance or performance

Manage design changes through the appropriate change-control processes
About You
The successful Fire Alarm Designer will ideally possess:

Proven experience designing fire alarm and detection systems

Knowledge of PA/VA, suppression, fire stopping and system integration
-
Experience producing URS, FDS and other technical documentation
-
Familiarity with BIM, PAS 1192 and navigating 3D models
-
Knowledge of CDM Regulations and temporary works
-
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office
-
An ONC, HNC, degree, NVQ or equivalent relevant qualification
