Design Engineer in Braintree, Essex

The Opportunity

We are recruiting a Design Engineer to support a major airport infrastructure and transformation programme.

You'll contribute to the design and coordination of Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) systems across terminal expansion, existing facility upgrades and wider airport infrastructure.

Working alongside design managers, consultants, subcontractors and project delivery teams, you'll help develop safe, compliant and buildable engineering solutions within a complex operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support site surveys, technical assessments and design development.

• Produce and review MEP specifications, drawings, calculations and technical documentation.

• Coordinate mechanical, electrical and public health systems, including HVAC, power, lighting, water services and drainage.

• Review subcontractor design submissions for compliance and buildability.

• Coordinate with architectural, structural, civil and specialist engineering teams.

• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Building Regulations and CDM requirements.

• Support value engineering, procurement and design programme management.

• Identify design risks, early warnings and compensation events.

• Maintain design records and support quality assurance.

• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning and handover.

About You

• Experience in building services design, engineering or a related discipline.

• HNC, HND, degree or equivalent professional experience.

• Ability to produce or review engineering drawings, calculations and specifications.

• Understanding of UK engineering standards, Building Regulations and CDM.

• Strong technical, organisational and communication skills.

• Familiarity with BIM and digital engineering tools.

Experience in aviation, airports, transport infrastructure or complex building services projects is advantageous.
