Mechanical Design Engineer - Ipswich, Suffolk - Negotiable Salary (DOE) + Benefits

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to work on bespoke engineering projects across the marine, industrial and power generation sectors?

We are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering business based in Ipswich. You will be responsible for designing mechanical systems and associated equipment for diesel generating sets and bespoke engineering projects, supporting products from concept through to manufacture and commissioning.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including industrial installations, purpose-built acoustic and thermal enclosures, plant room applications, commercial marine vessels, super yachts and MOD projects.

We are open to candidates at the start of their career, whether that's via work experience or graduates.

Key Responsibilities: -

• Produce detailed mechanical designs from customer and sales specifications
• Develop 3D models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation for production
• Work closely with consultants, customers and internal teams to establish project requirements and design constraints
• Produce and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Support production throughout the manufacturing process, ensuring designs are practical and cost-effective to manufacture
• Assist with prototype development, testing and product validation
• Produce technical documentation for Operation & Maintenance manuals

About You: -

• Previous experience in 2D & 3D design systems
• Knowledge of fabrication, sheet metal, machined components and mechanical assemblies
• Excellent attention to detail with strong communication and organisational skills
• Able to work collaboratively across multiple departments while managing your own workload
• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred
