This is a genuinely hands-on Design Engineer opportunity where you’ll be part of a 3-person design team, working alongside manufacturing and seeing your ideas become reality on the same site.

We’re an established, agile UK engineering SME with over 200 employees, supplying high-performance products directly to global Tier 1 OEMS

We’re looking for an experienced Design Engineer to take real ownership of mechanical design projects from concept through to production.

Commutable from: Birmingham, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield, Moseley, Wolverhampton, Halesowen, Redditch, Aston, Willenhall, Wednesbury, Dudley, Solihull, Kingswinford and Tamworth

Duties

  • Own the design and engineering data for new and existing products.
  • Create high-quality 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Take designs from concept → development → validation → production.
  • Lead the early design stages of APQP/NPI projects.
  • Collaborate with test engineers on verification, validation and FMEA-led testing.
  • Identify opportunities for VAVE, material improvements and new manufacturing techniques.
  • Continuously improve existing products, processes and designs.

What we are looking for

  • Degree-level qualification in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Design – or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong commercial experience taking mechanical designs from concept through to manufacture.
  • Advanced SolidWorks skills, including complex assemblies and detailed production drawings.
  • Good knowledge of APQP, DFM/DFMA, FMEA and VAVE.
  • Experience designing for sheet metal fabrication and assembly would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of aluminium extrusions, including design and manufacturing limitations.
  • Experience with plastic injection mouldings, including tooling and material considerations.
