Design Engineer- Remote

Our client are seeking an experienced Design Engineer (Security Systems) to deliver end-to-end electrical and security design solutions across UK Electrical and Gas Transmission sites. You’ll manage designs from concept through to commissioning and handover — ensuring full compliance with legislation, technical standards, and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed site surveys for Transmission sites.
  • Develop concept and detailed design packages for both Electrical (LV & ELV) and Security Systems.
  • Prepare RFI/TQ documentation and manage Design Change Control processes.
  • Produce drawings, block diagrams, SLDs, schematics, and schedules in AutoCAD and Amtech.
  • Support HAZID/HAZCON/Design Assurance reviews, promoting hazard mitigation in design.
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Construction, and Project Management teams.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers.
  • Ensure full compliance with internal management systems, safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Mandatory Experience

  • Amtech or ElectricalOM design software.
  • AutoCAD 2D and familiarity with BIM/Revit (or willingness to learn).
  • Design of LV/ELV systems, AC/DC systems, UPS, and Security Systems (CCTV, Access Control, Perimeter Security).
  • Preparation of technical schedules and design documentation.

Desirable Experience

  • Revit BIM experience.
  • Hazardous Area Design (ATEX, IECEx, DSEAR).
  • Prior UK Transmission Security Design experience (GT or ET).
  • Hands-on EC&I installation background.

Qualifications

  • 18th Edition (2382) & Level 4 Design and Verification (2396).
  • Minimum HNC (preferably BEng) in Electrical Engineering.
  • IEng/CEng (or working towards).
  • National Grid Person (Substation) and EUSR SHEA Gas certifications.
